The holiday season is a time for family togetherness and heartwarming moments. But, if you’re a caregiver or loved one of an individual with dementia, it can be overwhelming or difficult to know how to make the most of celebrations and gatherings.
Whether your loved one is living at home or at a senior care community, Melissa Long will share expert advice, resources and ideas to help make holiday visits joyful and less stressful for all. She will share steps you can take to include your loved one to the greatest degree possible and will discuss:
•Gift-giving suggestions
•Safety considerations
•Strategies to improve connection
•How to draw from past traditions to create moments of pleasure
•Recognizing and responding to signs of distress or fatigue
•Self-care for caregivers
The event includes an interactive demonstration of the latest and greatest in gifts for loved ones with dementia. Attendees will be able to try out these gifts firsthand.
Melissa Long is the Director of Education & Support at Insight Memory Care Center. Melissa coordinates support groups, caregiver workshops and educational events for caregivers and their loved ones on the journey with dementia. Melissa has been providing care to older adults for 17+ years.
