Job Summary:
This position provides high quality music therapy service for the residents of Kensington Falls Church.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, direct, and participate in treatment programs to facilitate resident well-being, helping to maximize strengths and maintain skills.
- Obtain information from medical records, medical staff, family members and the patients themselves to assess patients’ capabilities, needs and interests.
- Provide high quality therapeutic services, assessments, treatment planning, and music therapy sessions in both individual and group settings.
- Observe, analyze, and record residents’ participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, modifying treatment programs as needed.
- Prepare and submit reports and charts to treatment team and family members to reflect patients’ responses and evidence of progress or regression.
- Confer with members of treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy programs and attend family meetings to communicate progress and future directions.
- Work with team to design and disseminate promotion for the music therapy program in the community
- Submit detailed reports to appropriate departments when required
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Required Education – Bachelor’s degree in music therapy and board certification.
- Required Experience – At least 2 years clinical experience preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills – Proficiency in and extensive knowledge of music therapy. Ability to work in diverse settings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Physical Demands – Frequent walking, sitting, climbing stairs, stopping, bending, kneeling.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to read and write English and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Experience with ageing population and dementia elderly preferable
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.
- High school diploma is required; college education is preferred.
- Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialists or as an Activities Professional by a recognized accrediting body is preferred.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver license.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
- Requires ability to stand and walk short and long distances for extended periods of time.
- Requires sitting, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms above, below, and at shoulder length.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Must be able to push a minimum of 200 pounds and be able to push such weight a minimum distance of 200 feet.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during an emergency.
- Ability to remain calm and positive in stressful situations.
