On Monday the 26th at 3:30 we ventured down to the 1st Floor of The Kensington to The Falls Church Arts Studio where Residents made the leaves for the Falls Church Art in The Park Project- “Fronds”!
This hands- on community art project was designed to engage a diverse range of people working together to construct environmental and socially relevant sculptures along Howard Herman Park in the city of Falls Church. Collaboration, creativity, connection to the environment and one another are themes woven into the process and materials involved in the making of these artworks.
The Little City has a history of environmentally conscious programs, as well as robust community involvement, which this project celebrates and draws on for inspiration.
The “Fronds” Sculpture will be a series of 3 tall, slender tree trunks grouped together with handmade leaves mounted in a frond-like pattern, similar to the example to the left. The actual trees will have may more leaves in assorted colors, but this presents a good example of the project.
