Residents and Local Youth Prep 500 Care Packages for U.S. Troops and Local Homeless

On Friday, June 30, 2017, the Kensington Café was abuzz with volunteer activity as we hosted Nova Scripts Central and a group of 40+ young Accenture summer interns – local high school and young college students – and their mentors to prepare 300 care packages for U.S. troops abroad and 200 care packages for the local homeless.  The tireless volunteers worked with Kensington residents to write a personal note, which was inserted into each care package. Residents also volunteered in the “assembly line” to pack the boxes, which included adding the note, and taping the boxes closed in preparation for delivery.

All were pleased to interact and relax, after 2 ½ hours of volunteering, to enjoy a pizza party with ice cold Arnold Palmers, a thirst-quenching mix of iced tea and lemonade, on the Piazza.  It was an inspiring event for all.  Kensington residents look forward to upcoming opportunities to support those in need by volunteering their time and energy to these important causes.
