The Experts:

Delores Athey, Director of Strategic Partnerships with Capital City Nurses, is a Healthcare professional with a true heart for advocacy. Prior to entering the field of Senior Services, Delores spent 19 years working in a youth advocacy role assisting underserved communities bridge the gap between home and school.  After personal family struggles with dementia, she was drawn to helping others dealing with similar elder care challenges. Her passion is to truly educate her clients on resources, services and strategies to manage and overcome struggles in caregiving, which she has put into motion over several years as she has counseled countless families in the fields of home care and senior living. Delores runs the Continuum of Care program for Capital City Nurses covering Virginia, Maryland, DC and Delaware.

Alicia Fonseca, MacNaughton Team, which has over 20 years’ experience in the reverse mortgage industry. Before joining the team, she taught for 16 years in the public school system. Alicia brings her passion for education, unique perspective of learning and desire to serve others to help address the challenges that face the senior population. She strongly believes that through education and building strong relationships, options and solutions can be found that allow seniors to age in the way that is best for them. She is an active member for the Planning for Seniors group, which focuses on providing resources and services to the senior population. She lives in Marshall, VA with her husband, children and menagerie of pets. She is a garden enthusiast, a local artist and animal welfare advocate.

John Bennett, Senior Financial Advisor, joined Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in 2013, bringing 27 years of business ownership experience to his role as Senior Financial Advisor. John’s objective is to develop deeper relationships with clients by creating tailored strategies using a broad array of financial products and services. He aspires to honor Charles Merrill’s commitment to putting clients’ interests first, and he applies this philosophy through cultivating clients’ assets and tracking progress toward their goals. John earned his B.S. in Mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He participates in his community by contributing his time and business experience to The Loudoun Senior Interest Network and Planning for Senior Living, two organizations designed to help seniors and their families with the challenges that face our aging population. Since 2016, he has also served as the treasurer for the Lansdowne on the Potomac HOA. John resides in Lansdowne, Virginia with his wife, Marsha.

Dave Knasel, Head of Protorae Law’s Trusts and Estates practice. In addition to estate planning and administration, he also practices in the areas of Corporate and Business EntitiesBusiness Transactions, as well as business succession planning where he counsels clients in a variety of business and estate matters.  In every engagement, Dave seeks to be a trusted advisor to his clients, guiding them through the legal process, and helping them achieve their goals. Dave has a passion for estate and business succession planning and, especially, assisting business owners create integrated plans for their families, personal wealth, and businesses. With over 25 years of legal experience, Dave has seen the benefits of thoughtful advance planning and the costly mistakes that can happen without it. Dave brings this background, experience, and passion to the practice of law.  He truly enjoys helping people put in place the legal plans that will preserve and protect their families, businesses, and wealth.
