What Is Memory Care at The Kensington Falls Church?

Memory care at The Kensington Falls Church is never one-size-fits-all. Instead, we offer two distinct and nurturing neighborhoods, each tailored to the unique needs of residents as their dementia progresses.

  • The Kensington Club early-stage memory care program for new and current assisted living residents experiencing mild changes in cognition. It features a strong relationship-based focus, peer support, sensory movement, and family participation.
  • Connections supports individuals with moderate memory loss who benefit from structured routines, gentle redirection, and life enrichment activities designed to keep them engaged.
  • Haven provides an intimate, calming environment for those in the later stages of dementia, where comfort, dignity, and deep emotional connection are top priorities.

Our care partners are essential in making these spaces feel like home.

Certifications & Qualifications to Get Started

We welcome both seasoned professionals and compassionate individuals ready to grow.

For most roles in Connections and Haven, candidates must hold or be actively pursuing certification as a:

In addition to licensure, we look for:

  • Experience or coursework in dementia care
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • A passion for helping others and strong communication skills

We also offer ongoing dementia-specific training, including communication strategies, de-escalation techniques, and emotional resilience, ensuring every team member is equipped for success.

Working in Connections: Supporting Mid-Stage Memory Loss

A day in the Connections neighborhood might begin with helping residents with morning routines such as bathing, dressing, and setting intentions for the day.

Throughout the day, team members support structured activities like:

  • Arts and music therapy
  • Cognitive stimulation sessions
  • Group meals that encourage socialization

One key responsibility in Connections is recognizing and redirecting early signs of confusion or agitation. This requires patience, empathy, and a keen understanding of each resident’s unique personality and triggers.

Care partners here are highly engaged, fostering independence wherever possible while providing a safety net of support.

Working in Haven: Compassionate Late-Stage Dementia Care

In Haven, care partners provide more intimate, hands-on support throughout each resident’s day.

Tasks often include:

  • Assistance with feeding and mobility
  • Bedside personal care
  • Calming sensory activities like aromatherapy or gentle music

Here, non-verbal communication becomes vital using tone of voice, eye contact, and soft touch to convey warmth and reassurance.

Team members often form profound emotional bonds with Haven residents and their families, becoming a trusted presence in life’s most delicate moments.

Because residents in Haven require high-acuity care, our memory care professionals are trained in recognizing medical needs and working closely with nurses and specialists to ensure safety and comfort.

Emotional Rewards of Memory Care Careers

Working in memory care isn’t easy, but it’s deeply meaningful. You’ll celebrate small wins: a smile during morning care, a moment of clarity during a musical activity, or the peaceful presence of a resident who feels safe by your side.

In both Connections and Haven, you’ll witness firsthand how your presence brings calm to confusion, structure to chaos, and joy to moments that might otherwise be lost.

Memory care team members often describe their work as a calling.

At The Kensington Falls Church, we ensure you never walk this path alone, offering mentorship, peer support, and a community that lifts each other up.
