The onboarding process in healthcare at The Kensington Falls Church
At The Kensington Falls Church, we believe that a robust and efficient onboarding process is absolutely essential. We ensure our new team members can seamlessly integrate into our community and thrive in their roles.
Preparation for Day 1: getting started
Beginning a new role can be an exciting yet intimidating journey. That’s why we’ve designed our onboarding process to provide a smooth transition into your new role at The Kensington Falls Church.
Documentation and paperwork
Your first day will begin with a meeting with Takisha, our Manager of Team Member Services. She will guide you through the New Hire Paperwork, the essential first step for starting employment with us.
System setup
After the paperwork and documentation, we’ll move on to the system setup to create your keys, fob, and name badge.
Depending on your role, we may also set up your Outlook Email account, and introduce you to various platforms that will aid you in daily tasks, such as:
- OneDrive
- SharePoint
- MatrixCare
- ADP
- Makeshift
- TELS/Cisco
The new hire orientation and training program
After your first day, you’ll begin our New Hire and Training Orientation program.
Over the course of two days, we’ll equip new team members with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to excel in their new role to contribute positively to our community.
Safety tour
To wrap up your first day, Gil, our Director of Environmental Services, will guide you on a Safety Tour.
This walkthrough will help you familiarize yourself with our campus and buildings. It will also educate you on the safety protocols and procedures in case of emergencies.
New hire orientation
New hire orientation will prepare new team members with the foundational knowledge and skills required for their new role, including an understanding of The Kensington Falls Church’s values led by Amy, our Executive Director.
Additionally, you’ll see how our team truly works together to bring Our Promise to life, to love and care for your family as we do our own.
We’ll also cover work-related tasks such as:
- Using MatrixCare for documentation
- BCAT
- Infection control
- Medication administration
- Managing medical emergencies
- End-of-life care
Department specific training
Depending on what department you’ll work in, initial training usually takes about 2 weeks.
Team Members’ supervisor will work through a training program to make sure they feel set up for success. This may involve learning about environmental services with Gil, rehabilitation procedures with Bobby, our Director of Rehabilitation, or dining services with Daniel, our Director of Dining.
Other potential areas of focus can include:
- Life enrichment with Michelle, our Assisted Living Activities Coordinator
- Sales and marketing overviews with Anne, Director of Sales & Marketing
Relias training
Lastly, we will conclude with an eight-hour virtual training program on Relias, an educational platform for healthcare workers that all employees must complete within 7 days of their first shift. Training can be completed at their own pace as long as it’s completed within that time frame.
The Relias training program will educate new hires on the following range of topics:
- Alzheimer’s care
- Dementia care
- Parkinson’s care
- Infection control
- Precautions for blood pathogens
- Fire safety
- Emergency preparedness
- Abuse prevention
- Food safety
- Hand hygiene basics
- Privacy and confidentiality protocols
- And more
Continued learning and employment beyond the onboarding process in healthcare
