The Veterans’ Wall: A Tribute to Our Veterans at The Kensington

We culminated the month of May and anticipate special days in June and July with a focus on those who have given of themselves to protect our freedoms. Beginning with Memorial Day festivities at the end of May, The Kensington Falls Church participated in the Memorial Day celebration kicking off the day as sponsors of a Fun Run and participating in the City’s annual parade. The Kensington showcased its own “float” flanked by staff and some surprise four-legged guests.

We were delighted to have Paws for Purple Hearts join us on the parade route! This great organization reaches out to veterans recovering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other injuries. We then hosted a Memorial Day BBQ, wrapping up a long day of excitement, celebration and festivity.

On June 6, we will commemorate D-Day. We observe the 240th anniversary of the adoption of the “Stars and Stripes” as the official U.S. flag on June 14th. Looking forward to July, The Kensington Falls Church family and friends will gather for festivities and fanfare as America observes Independence Day on July 4th.

With a spotlight on service and patriotism, The Kensington Falls Church will honor our Veterans in residence with a designated wall on the main floor of the community. On display will be a frame for each Veteran containing then-and-now photos and a brief synopsis of their military service. These frames will surround the framed flag and its accompanying certificate on the Veteran’s Wall. Congressman Don Beyer, who represents our community in the U.S. House of Representatives, has been invited to present the flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol on February 7, 2017, the day our doors opened to the first resident at The Kensington. We hope the Congressman will visit the community and gather with us around the Veteran’s Wall to present the flag and honor our Veterans for their service. Look forward to receiving an invitation with date and special details for this event.

In addition, plan to join us to celebrate our dads at a Father’s Day BBQ on June 18. Invitations and details will be forthcoming.
